भारत सरकार भारत की तथा इसके प्रत्‍येक भाग की सुरक्षा सुनिश्चित करने के लिए उत्तरदायी है। भारतीय शस्‍त्र सेनाओं की सर्वोच्‍च कमान भारत के राष्‍ट्रपति के पास है। राष्‍ट्र की रक्षा का दायित्‍व मंत्री मंडल के पास होता है। इसके निर्वहन रक्षा मंत्रालय से किया जाता है, जो सशस्‍त्र बलों को देश की रक्षा के संदर्भ में उनके दायित्‍व के निर्वहन के लिए नीतिगत रूपरेखा और जानकारियां प्रदान करता है। भारतीय शस्‍त्र सेना में तीन प्रभाग हैं: भारतीय थल सेना, भारतीय नौ सेना और भारतीय वायु सेना।   /  The Government of India is responsible for ensuring the security of India and every part of it. The Supreme Command of the Indian Armed Forces rests with the President of India. The responsibility of the defense of the nation rests with the Council of Ministers. It is discharged from the Ministry of Defence, which provides the policy framework and inputs to the armed forces for the discharge of their responsibilities in the context of the defense of the country. The Indian Armed Forces have three divisions: the Indian Army, the Indian Navy and the Indian Air Force.
