The Data Link layer is the second layer of the seven-layer Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model of computer networking at which meaning is assigned to the bits that are transmitted over the network.  Two types of Data Link layer devices are commonly used on networks: bridges and switches. A bridge is an intelligent repeater that is aware of the MAC addresses of the nodes on either side of the bridge and can forward packets accordingly. A switch is an intelligent hub that examines the MAC address of arriving packets in order to determine which port to forward the packet to. / डेटा लिंक परत कंप्यूटर नेटवर्किंग के सात-परत ओपन सिस्टम इंटरकनेक्शन (ओएसआई) मॉडल की दूसरी परत है, जिसका अर्थ नेटवर्क पर प्रसारित होने वाले बिट्स को सौंपा गया है। दो प्रकार के डेटा लिंक परत डिवाइस आमतौर पर नेटवर्क पर उपयोग किए जाते हैं : पुल और स्विच। ब्रिज एक बुद्धिमान पुनरावर्तक है जो पुल के दोनों ओर नोड्स के मैक पते से अवगत होता है और तदनुसार पैकेट अग्रेषित कर सकता है। एक स्विच एक इंटेलिजेंट हब है जो आने वाले पैकेट के मैक पते की जांच करता है ताकि यह निर्धारित किया जा सके कि किस पोर्ट को पैकेट को अग्रेषित करना है।
