Explanation / व्याख्यात्मक विवरण :- 

The oath of office to the President is administered by the Chief Justice of India and in his absence, the senior most judge of the Supreme Court available. The President is required to make and subscribe in the presence of the Chief Justice of an oath or affirmation that he/she shall protect, preserve and defend the Constitution. / राष्ट्रपति को पद की शपथ भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश द्वारा दिलाई जाती है और उनकी अनुपस्थिति में, सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के वरिष्ठतम न्यायाधीश उपलब्ध होते हैं। राष्ट्रपति को शपथ या प्रतिज्ञान के मुख्य न्यायाधीश की उपस्थिति में बनाना और सदस्यता लेना आवश्यक है कि वह संविधान की रक्षा, संरक्षण और बचाव करेगा।

Note : Chief Justice of India, i.e. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India is one who gives oath to the President of India. It is the President that administers oath to the Chief Justice of India too. In a hypothetical situation if anything happens to the Chief Justice of India on the day, the second senior most judges (as acting CJI) can administer oath to the President. Similarly, in the absence of the President, the Vice President can administer oath to CJI. Recently,Justice JS Khehar sworn in as the 44th Chief Justice of India. / नोट: भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश, यानी भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय का मुख्य न्यायाधीश वह होता है जो भारत के राष्ट्रपति को शपथ दिलाता है। राष्ट्रपति ही भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश को भी शपथ दिलाते हैं। एक काल्पनिक स्थिति में यदि उस दिन भारत के मुख्य न्यायाधीश को कुछ होता है, तो दूसरे वरिष्ठतम न्यायाधीश (कार्यवाहक CJI के रूप में) राष्ट्रपति को शपथ दिला सकते हैं। इसी तरह, राष्ट्रपति की अनुपस्थिति में, उपराष्ट्रपति CJI को शपथ दिला सकता है। हाल ही में न्यायमूर्ति जेएस खेहर ने भारत के 44वें मुख्य न्यायाधीश के रूप में शपथ ली।
