This was first discovered by William Harvey, a physician from England. Dr. Harvey discussed the whole process of blood circulation and the role of the brain in it. He is also called the father of modern physiology. Earlier, the Greek physician Galen reported that blood is made in the kidneys and absorbed by the whole body. Harvey discovered the circulatory system in the body through his experiments with dissections and biopsies. He first observed the heartbeat and detected pulmonary circulation. He was also diagnosed with one-way blood transfusion. In his attempt to find the amount of blood pumped by the heart, he came to the conclusion that a certain amount of blood circulates through the arteries and then back through the heart through the veins. He detailed his research in a publication 'An Anatomical Study of the Motion of the Heart and of the Blood in Animals' in 1628. / इंग्लैंड के एक चिकित्सक विलियम हार्वे ने सबसे पहले इस बात का पता लगाया था। डॉ. हार्वे ने रक्तसंचार की पूरी प्रक्रिया एवं उसमें मस्तिस्क की भूमिका की विवेचना की। उन्हें आधुनिक शरीर विज्ञान का पिता भी कहा जाता है। इसके पूर्व ग्रीक चिकित्सक गलेन ने बताया था कि रक्त किडनी में बनता है और पूरे शरीर द्वारा अवशोषित किया जाता है। हार्वे ने अपने विच्छेदन और जीवच्छेदन के प्रयोगों से शरीर में रक्त-संचार प्रणाली का पता लगाया। उन्होने सबसे पहले दिल की धड़कन का निरीक्षण किया और उन्हे फुफ्फुस रक्त परिसंचरण का पता लगा। उन्हे एक तरफा रक्त संचरण का भी पता चला। दिल से पंप रक्त की मात्रा को खोजने के अपने प्रयास में वह इस निष्कर्ष पर पहुंचे कि धमनियों से एक निश्चित मात्रा में रक्त का संचार होता है और फिर वही दिल से होकर शिराओं के माध्यम से वापस आता है। उन्होने अपने शोध की विस्तृत व्याख्या 1628 में एक प्रकाशन ‘एन अनाटोमिकल स्टडी ऑफ द मोशन ऑफ द हार्ट एंड ऑफ द ब्लड इन एनिमल्स’ में
