National emergency under article 352 of the Indian Constitution is caused by war, external aggression or armed rebellion in the whole of India or a part of its territory. In such an emergency, Fundamental Rights of Indian citizens can be suspended. The six freedoms under Right to Freedom are automatically suspended. However, the Right to Life and Personal Liberty cannot be suspended according to the original Constitution. It modifies the federal system of government to a unitary one. / भारतीय संविधान के अनुच्छेद 352 के तहत राष्ट्रीय आपातकाल पूरे भारत या उसके क्षेत्र के एक हिस्से में युद्ध, बाहरी आक्रमण या सशस्त्र विद्रोह के कारण होता है। ऐसी आपात स्थिति में भारतीय नागरिकों के मौलिक अधिकारों को निलंबित किया जा सकता है। स्वतंत्रता के अधिकार के तहत छह स्वतंत्रताएं स्वतः ही निलंबित हो जाती हैं। हालाँकि, जीवन के अधिकार और व्यक्तिगत स्वतंत्रता को मूल संविधान के अनुसार निलंबित नहीं किया जा सकता है। यह सरकार की संघीय व्यवस्था को एकात्मक में बदल देता है।
