After India gained independence, a formal model of planning was adopted, and accordingly the Planning Commission, reporting directly to the Prime Minister of India was established on 15 March, 1950, with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as the chairman. The Planning Commission does not derive its creation from either the Constitution or statute, but is an arm of the Central/Union Government. It is alleged that Planning Commission (India) which is neither a constitutional nor a statutory body has usurped the role of Finance Commission. / भारत को स्वतंत्रता प्राप्त होने के बाद, योजना का एक औपचारिक मॉडल अपनाया गया था, और तदनुसार योजना आयोग, भारत के प्रधान मंत्री को सीधे रिपोर्ट करना, 15 मार्च, 1950 को प्रधान मंत्री जवाहरलाल नेहरू के अध्यक्ष के रूप में स्थापित किया गया था। योजना आयोग अपनी रचना न तो संविधान या क़ानून से प्राप्त करता है, बल्कि केंद्र/संघ सरकार की एक शाखा है। यह आरोप लगाया जाता है कि योजना आयोग (भारत) जो न तो एक संवैधानिक और न ही एक वैधानिक निकाय है, ने वित्त आयोग की भूमिका को हथिया लिया है।
