The Attorney General of India is the Indian government’s chief legal advisor, and its primary lawyer in the Supreme Court of India. He is appointed by the President of India under Article 76(1) of the Constitution and holds office during the pleasure of the President. He must be a person qualified to be appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court. The Attorney General is responsible for giving advice to the Government of India in legal matters referred to him. He also performs other legal duties assigned to him by the President. / भारत का महान्यायवादी भारत सरकार का मुख्य कानूनी सलाहकार और भारत के सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में इसका प्राथमिक वकील है। वह संविधान के अनुच्छेद 76(1) के तहत भारत के राष्ट्रपति द्वारा नियुक्त किया जाता है और राष्ट्रपति के प्रसाद पर्यंत पद धारण करता है। वह सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के न्यायाधीश के रूप में नियुक्त होने के योग्य व्यक्ति होना चाहिए। महान्यायवादी उसे संदर्भित कानूनी मामलों में भारत सरकार को सलाह देने के लिए जिम्मेदार है। वह राष्ट्रपति द्वारा सौंपे गए अन्य कानूनी कर्तव्यों का भी पालन करता है।
