In a first-of-its-kind move in the country, Kerala, in July 2016, introduced a ‘fat tax’ on the consumption of junk food items like pizzas and burgers sold through branded restaurants. The state government imposed 14.5% tax on branded restaurants selling items like tacos, pizzas, burgers, sandwiches, among others. / देश में अपनी तरह के पहले कदम में, केरल ने जुलाई 2016 में, ब्रांडेड रेस्तरां के माध्यम से बेचे जाने वाले पिज्जा और बर्गर जैसे जंक फूड की खपत पर एक ‘वसा कर’ पेश किया। राज्य सरकार ने टैको, पिज्जा, बर्गर, सैंडविच जैसे अन्य सामान बेचने वाले ब्रांडेड रेस्तरां पर 14.5% कर लगाया।
