कच्छ का महान रण गुजरात, भारत के कच्छ जिले और पाकिस्तान के सिंध प्रांत में थार रेगिस्तान में स्थित एक मौसमी नमक दलदल है। यह अपने दलदली भूमि और मिट्टी के फ्लैटों के लिए जाना जाता है, जिन्हें ज्वारीय फ्लैटों के रूप में भी जाना जाता है, जो तटीय आर्द्रभूमि हैं जो तब बनते हैं जब ज्वार या नदियों द्वारा कीचड़ जमा किया जाता है।

कच्छ का रण अपनी सफेद नमकीन रेगिस्तानी रेत के लिए प्रसिद्ध है और इसे दुनिया का सबसे बड़ा नमक रेगिस्तान माना जाता है। ‘रण’ का अर्थ हिंदी में रेगिस्तान है जो बदले में संस्कृत शब्द ‘इरिना’ से लिया गया है जिसका अर्थ रेगिस्तान भी है। कच्छ के निवासियों को कच्छी कहा जाता है और उनकी अपनी एक ही नाम की भाषा होती है। कच्छ के रण में अधिकांश आबादी में हिंदू, मुस्लिम, जैन और सिख शामिल हैं।

कच्छ क्षेत्र का रण भी पारिस्थितिक रूप से समृद्ध वन्यजीवों की एक श्रृंखला का घर है जैसे कि राजहंस और जंगली गधे जिन्हें अक्सर रेगिस्तान के आसपास देखा जा सकता है। रण कुछ अभयारण्यों का भी हिस्सा है जैसे कि भारतीय जंगली गधा अभयारण्य, कच्छ रेगिस्तान वन्यजीव अभयारण्य आदि। यह वन्यजीव फोटोग्राफरों और प्रकृति प्रेमियों के लिए समान रूप से एक स्वर्ग है।

गुजरात सरकार हर साल दिसंबर से फरवरी तक तीन महीने तक चलने वाले त्योहार को ‘द रण उत्सव’ के नाम से जाना जाता है। यह आसपास के स्थानीय लोगों के लिए आय का मुख्य स्रोत है, जो स्थानीय व्यंजनों का स्वाद लेने और कच्छ की संस्कृति और आतिथ्य को देखने के लिए दुनिया भर से आगंतुकों का स्वागत करते हैं।

The Great Rann of Kutch is a seasonal salt marsh located in the Thar Desert in the Kutch District of Gujarat, India and the Sindh province of Pakistan. It is known for its marshland and mud flats, also known as tidal flats, that are coastal wetlands which form when mud is deposited by tides or rivers.

The Rann of Kachchh is famous for its white salty desert sand and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world.‘Rann’ means desert in Hindi which in turn is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘Irina’ which also means desert. The inhabitants of Kachchh are called Kachchhi and have a language of their own with the same name. Most of the population in Rann of Kachchh comprises of Hindus, Muslims, Jains and Sikhs.

The Rann of Kachchh region is also home to a range of ecologically rich wildlife such as the flamingos and the wild ass that can be spotted around the desert often. Rann is also a part of a few sanctuaries such as the Indian wild ass sanctuary, Kachchh desert wildlife sanctuary etc. It is a paradise for wildlife photographers and nature enthusiasts alike.

The government of Gujarat holds a three month long festival known as ‘The Rann Utsav’ every year starting from December to February. This is the main source of income for the locals around who welcome visitors from across the globe to savour in local delicacies and to witness the culture and hospitality of Kachchh.
