DebalaMitra tells that this is the only such representation of Avalokiteshvara in stone in India./ प्राचीन इतिहास में कन्हेरी को कृष्णगिरि, कान्हागिरि, कान्हासेला के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। प्राचीन इतिहास में कन्हेरी को कृष्णागिरी, कान्हागिरी, कान्हासेला के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। यह स्मारकों के समूह के रूप में भारतीय रॉक कट वास्तुकला का एक अच्छा नमूना है। इस गुफा के दो महत्वपूर्ण प्रतीक ग्यारह सिरों वाली अवलोकितेश्वर की छवि और अवलोकितेश्वर की लिटनी हैं। ग्यारह सिरों वाले अवलोकितेश्वर को दाहिनी ओर के कक्ष में उकेरा गया है। देबलामित्र बताते हैं कि यह भारत में पत्थर पर अवलोकितेश्वर का एकमात्र ऐसा चित्रण है।
