The Bardoli Taluqa in Surat district had witnessed intense politicisation after the coming of Gandhi on the national political scene. In February 1926, Vallabh Bhai Patel was called to lead the movement. The women of Bardoli gave him the title of “Sardar”. Under Patel, the Bardoli peasants resolved to refuse payments of the revised assessment until the Government appointed an independent tribunal or accepted the current amount as full payment/ राष्ट्रीय राजनीतिक परिदृश्य पर गांधी के आने के बाद सूरत जिले के बारडोली तालुका में तीव्र राजनीतिकरण देखा गया था। फरवरी 1926 में वल्लभ भाई पटेल को आंदोलन का नेतृत्व करने के लिए बुलाया गया। बारडोली की महिलाओं ने उन्हें “सरदार” की उपाधि दी। पटेल के अधीन, बारडोली के किसानों ने संशोधित मूल्यांकन के भुगतान से इनकार करने का संकल्प लिया जब तक कि सरकार एक स्वतंत्र न्यायाधिकरण नियुक्त नहीं करती या वर्तमान राशि को पूर्ण भुगतान के रूप में स्वीकार नहीं कर लेती।
