Explanation / व्याख्या :-

The Archaeological Survey of India was founded in 1861 by Alexander Cunningham who also became its first Director-General. It was formed by a statute passed into law by Lord Canning with him as the first Archaeological Surveyor. John Marshall served as Director-General of ASI from 1902 to 1928. Mortimer Wheeler was also appointed as Director General of ASI during 1944. 

भारतीय पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षण की स्थापना 1861 में अलेक्जेंडर कनिंघम द्वारा की गई थी जो इसके पहले महानिदेशक भी बने। इसका गठन लॉर्ड कैनिंग द्वारा पहले पुरातत्व सर्वेक्षणकर्ता के रूप में कानून में पारित एक क़ानून द्वारा किया गया था। जॉन मार्शल ने 1902 से 1928 तक एएसआई के महानिदेशक के रूप में कार्य किया। मोर्टिमर व्हीलर को 1944 के दौरान एएसआई के महानिदेशक के रूप में भी नियुक्त किया गया था।
