The Bhimbetka rock shelters are an archaeological site in Central India that spans the Prehistoric Paleolithic and Mesolithic periods, as well as the historic period. It is located in the foothills of the Vindhyan Mountains (Madhya Pradesh) on the southern edge of the Central Indian plateau. It is a magnificent repository of rock paintings within natural rock shelters. It exhibits the earliest traces of human life on the Indian subcontinent and evidence of Stone Age. The rock shelters of Bhimbetka were declared a World Heritage Site in 2003. / भीमबेटका रॉक शेल्टर मध्य भारत में एक पुरातात्विक स्थल है जो प्रागैतिहासिक पुरापाषाण और मेसोलिथिक काल के साथ-साथ ऐतिहासिक काल तक फैला हुआ है। यह मध्य भारतीय पठार के दक्षिणी किनारे पर विंध्य पर्वत (मध्य प्रदेश) की तलहटी में स्थित है। यह प्राकृतिक शैल आश्रयों के भीतर शैल चित्रों का एक शानदार भंडार है। यह भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप पर मानव जीवन के शुरुआती निशान और पाषाण युग के साक्ष्य प्रदर्शित करता है। भीमबेटका के चट्टानी आश्रयों को 2003 में विश्व धरोहर स्थल घोषित किया गया था।
