Under the treaty of Srirangapatanam of 1792 Baramahal, Dindigul and Malabar were ceded to the British and half of the war indemnity was to be paid immediately while rest was to be given in installments for which Tipu's two sons were taken as hostages by the Britishers.

1792 की श्रीरंगपट्टनम की संधि के तहत बारामहल, डिंडीगुल और मालाबार को ब्रिटिश को सौंप दिया गया था और युद्ध क्षतिपूर्ति का आधा हिस्सा तुरंत भुगतान किया जाना था जबकि बाकी किश्तों में दिया जाना था जिसके लिए टीपू के दो बेटों को अंग्रेजों ने बंधक बना लिया था।
