Lord Cornwallis was the founder of Civil Services in India. Earlier the Civil Services Exam was held in England only but from 1923 it started to get held in India. Satyendranath Tagore was the first to qualify this exam. Cornwallis is also said to be the founder of Police Service & Permanent Settlement in India.

लॉर्ड कॉर्नवालिस भारत में सिविल सेवा के संस्थापक थे। पहले सिविल सेवा परीक्षा केवल इंग्लैंड में आयोजित की जाती थी, लेकिन 1923 से यह भारत में आयोजित होने लगी। सत्येंद्रनाथ टैगोर इस परीक्षा को उत्तीर्ण करने वाले पहले व्यक्ति थे। कॉर्नवालिस को भारत में पुलिस सेवा और स्थायी बंदोबस्त का संस्थापक भी कहा जाता है।
