PM Modi will carry out the first blast of the Shinkun La Tunnel Project virtually. An official release said that the Shinkun La Tunnel Project, which consists of a 4.1 km long Twin-Tube tunnel that would be constructed at an altitude of around 15,800 feet on the Nimu-Padum-Darcha Road, would provide all-weather connectivity to Leh. Once completed, it will be the highest tunnel in the world. Madhubala, widow of Kargil hero Vinod Kumar, said, "On May 18, 1997, we got married and on June 14, 1999, he lost his life. I feel very good to be here and feel proud. Rajender Kumar, the elder brother of Kargil hero, soldier Bejender Kumar, said that he feels proud that his brother died for the country."I feel so proud; he died for the country. We remember him every day," he said. / कारगिल के नायक विनोद कुमार की विधवा मधुबाला ने कहा, "18 मई 1997 को हमारी शादी हुई और 14 जून 1999 को उन्होंने अपनी जान गंवा दी। मुझे यहां आकर बहुत अच्छा लग रहा है और गर्व महसूस हो रहा है।" कारगिल के नायक, सैनिक बेजेंद्र कुमार के बड़े भाई राजेंद्र कुमार ने कहा कि उन्हें गर्व है कि उनके भाई ने देश के लिए अपनी जान दे दी। उन्होंने कहा, "मुझे बहुत गर्व है, वह देश के लिए मर गए। हम उन्हें हर दिन याद करते हैं।"
Prashanti, wife of Kargil hero Group Captain K. Nachiketa Rao, said that, like all other countrymen, she too used to pray everyday for his return from Pakistan. Group Captain Rao was a fighter pilot in the Indian Air Force who was captured by the Pakistani army before being handed over to the Indian authorities. "I feel very proud of the bravery and courage he has shown. We were not married at the time of the war. We got married two years after the war. Like all other countrymen, we too used to pray everyday for his return (from Pakistan).
