Kerala state witnessed the origin of the "Vaikom movement". The movement began on 30th March 1924. The movement is for temple entry of the depressed classes. It happened near the Shiva Temple at Vaikom, Kottayam district, Kerala during 1924-25. At that time, Vaikom was a part of the princely state of Travancore. Gandhiji, Chatampi Swamikal, E. V. Ramaswami Naicker, and Sree Narayana Guru supported the movement.
