Surendranath Banerjee laid the foundations of the Indian National Movement by founding the Indian Association at Calcutta in 1876. The main objective of this Association was "to bring the people of India on one platform on the basis of their common political interests and objectives". It later merged with the Indian National Congress.

सुरेन्द्रनाथ बनर्जी ने 1876 में कलकत्ता में इंडियन एसोसिएशन की स्थापना करके भारतीय राष्ट्रीय आंदोलन की नींव रखी। इस एसोसिएशन का मुख्य उद्देश्य "भारत के लोगों को उनके साझा राजनीतिक हितों और उद्देश्यों के आधार पर एक मंच पर लाना" था। बाद में इसका भारतीय राष्ट्रीय कांग्रेस में विलय हो गया।
