The Theosophical Society was founded by Madam H.P. Blavatsky and Colonel Olcott in New York in 1875. In 1882, the headquarters of the society was established in Adyar near Chennai in India. In 1889, Mrs. Annie Besant joined the Society in England. This movement was popularised by Annie Besant in India.
