The Regulating Act of 1773 established a supreme court at Fort William, Calcutta. This supreme court consisted of one Chief Justice and three other regular Judges. Sir Elijah Imphey was the first Chief Justice of this Supreme Court. The Supreme Court was the supreme judiciary over all British subjects including the provinces of Bengal, Bihar and Odisha. This was the starting point of Modern Constitutional History of India, under the British Rule.
1773 के रेगुलेटिंग एक्ट ने कलकत्ता के फोर्ट विलियम में एक सर्वोच्च न्यायालय की स्थापना की। इस सर्वोच्च न्यायालय में एक मुख्य न्यायाधीश और तीन अन्य नियमित न्यायाधीश शामिल थे। सर एलिजा इम्फी इस सर्वोच्च न्यायालय के पहले मुख्य न्यायाधीश थे। सर्वोच्च न्यायालय बंगाल, बिहार और ओडिशा प्रांतों सहित सभी ब्रिटिश विषयों पर सर्वोच्च न्यायपालिका थी। यह ब्रिटिश शासन के तहत भारत के आधुनिक संवैधानिक इतिहास का प्रारंभिक बिंदु था।
