The Victoria Memorial conceived by Lord Curzon (1899-1905) represents the architectural climax of Kolkata city. Lord Curzon proposed the construction of this grand building after the death of Queen Victoria in January 1901. After the completion of the construction of this monument it was formally opened to the common people in 1921.

लॉर्ड कर्जन (1899-1905) द्वारा परिकल्पित विक्टोरिया मेमोरियल कोलकाता शहर के वास्तुशिल्प चरमोत्कर्ष का प्रतिनिधित्व करता है। लॉर्ड कर्जन ने जनवरी 1901 में महारानी विक्टोरिया की मृत्यु के बाद इस भव्य इमारत के निर्माण का प्रस्ताव रखा था। इस स्मारक के निर्माण के पूरा होने के बाद इसे औपचारिक रूप से 1921 में आम लोगों के लिए खोल दिया गया था।
