The Gateway of India was built to commemorate the visit of King George V and Queen Mary to India. It was built during British rule and was inaugurated on December, 1924. The foundation stone was laid by the then governor of Mumbai, Sir George Sydenham Clarke on March, 1913. Architecture is built in Indo- Saracenic style. George Wittet was the Chief architect of the Gateway of India.
गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया का निर्माण किंग जॉर्ज पंचम और क्वीन मैरी की भारत यात्रा के उपलक्ष्य में किया गया था। इसका निर्माण ब्रिटिश शासन के दौरान हुआ था और इसका उद्घाटन दिसंबर, 1924 को हुआ था। इसकी आधारशिला मुंबई के तत्कालीन गवर्नर सर जॉर्ज सिडेनहैम क्लार्क ने मार्च, 1913 को रखी थी। वास्तुकला इंडो-सरसेनिक शैली में बनाई गई है। जॉर्ज विटेट गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया के मुख्य वास्तुकार थे।
